Copper Budget

Privacy Policy

Effective 18 September 2026.

Copper Budget helps people on a copper-restricted diet, such as people with Wilson disease, keep track of the copper in what they eat and of their medication schedule. This page says what happens to your information.

Your diary stays on your phone

The foods you log, your daily target, your medications, doses and reminder times are stored only on your device. The app has no accounts, and this information is never sent to us or to anyone else. We cannot see it, and deleting the app deletes it.

What leaves your phone

Barcode lookups. When you scan or type a barcode, the app sends that barcode number to our server, which looks the product up in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central and in Open Food Facts. If our server cannot be reached, the app asks Open Food Facts directly. The request contains the barcode and nothing about you. We keep the product's public details (name, serving size, nutrients, ingredient list) so the next lookup is faster; we do not keep a record of who looked it up.

Copper estimates. When a product's label does not list copper, our server may send the product's name and ingredient list to Anthropic's Claude service to help choose comparable foods with measured copper values. Only that product information is sent: nothing about you, your device or your diary.

Like any web service, our hosting provider (Microsoft Azure) processes your IP address to deliver a reply. We do not store it, and we do not use it to identify or track you.

What we do not do

No advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, no sale or sharing of personal information, and no data collected from or about children. The camera is used only to read barcodes; images are processed on your device and are never saved or sent anywhere. Reminders are scheduled on your device.

Not medical advice

Copper Budget is a dietary organisation tool, not a medical device. Copper values are taken from public food databases, and some are estimates that are labelled as such in the app. Follow your physician's or dietitian's guidance.
